LGBTIQA+ voices from across WA have delivered a clear message to government: inclusion must be more than symbolic.

A new report from Rainbow Futures WA calls for structural, systemic reform to make WA safer and fairer for everyone.

The WA LGBTIQA+ Inclusion Strategy Consultation Report presents five urgent priorities identified through statewide consultations: Inclusive Practices, Knowledge, Representation, Infrastructure, and Accountability.

“This report is more than a summary – it’s a roadmap for change,” said Dr Misty Farquhar OAM, CEO of Rainbow Futures WA. “Our communities have done their part. Now it’s time for government to act.”

Key recommendations include

  • Urgent legislative reform including banning conversion practices and closing discrimination loopholes.
  • Safe, inclusive services across health, education, housing, and justice.
  • Sustainable investment in community-led organisations and regional inclusion.
  • Real accountability, with transparent progress reporting and long-term commitment.

The report follows consultations held across metropolitan, regional, and online settings between February and June 2025, engaging over 650 participants.

“This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to reset the relationship between government and LGBTIQA+ communities,” said Dr Farquhar. “Symbolism is not enough. Inclusion must be structural, intersectional, and sustained.”
